Resigned to the Dark

The story behind this song
I wrote this song for someone very close to me. Twenty years ago, they took a marriage vow, and because of it, they somehow came to believe that they deserve to live miserably rather than happily. Watching them quietly accept pain as their only option broke my heart. I needed to remind them that they deserve the sunlight too.
Lyrics
You keep my walls from caving in, sweeping up glass before the noise begins. You wave off every cut like it's meant to be, a permanent tax on your company. I hear the resignation in the way you speak, like joy is a privilege only for the weak... Like the dark's, a room you were meant to inherit You talk like the fire was meant for your hands, like suffering's part of the master plan. You've made peace with the cold, settled for the grey. But I'm not letting you slip away. You think you're built to bear the heavy toll, happiness never written in your role. You've resigned to the dark, said it's just how it goes, Like you're meant to be broken, by a life you chose. You're the shelter, but you deserve the sunlight too. I won't accept the quiet lie you're holding on to. You wear the silence like a sentence you serve, tracing old scars like they're all you deserve. You say it is what it is with a shrug of your shoulders, while the weight on your back just keeps growing bolder. You built this sanctuary keeping me safe, while convincing yourself you're hopeless space. You talk like the fire was meant for your hands, like suffering's part of the master plan. Stop giving up on what you're worthy to feel. You don't lose your strength when you let yourself be real. You're not paid in pain for the protection you give. You didn't survive just to barely live. I refuse to watch you settle for the stone. I refuse to let you bleed out on your throne. You think you're built to bear the heavy toll, happiness never written in your role. You've resigned to the dark, said it's just how it goes, Like you're meant to be broken, by a life you chose. You're the shelter, but you deserve the sunlight too. I won't accept the quiet lie you're holding on to. You held the way, You earned the right, to burn the altar down and... Step into the sunlight
